3 Simple Tips to Look Your Best in Your Family Photos

You would be hard pressed to find someone who loves having their picture taken. So why do we even bother? To preserve our memories! So shed those insecurities and embrace your next family photo session with these simple tips. Your children will thank you for braving the camera and cherish the photographs of your family forever.

1) KNOW YOUR ANGELS

Never underestimate the power of posing. Follow these simple tips and you will be surprised what a huge difference they can make:

  • Bring your chin forward and down. It might sound weird, but it helps give you a more defined jawline.
  • Always rest your weight on the foot furthest away from the camera. This allows your hips to naturally 'kick backwards' and gives the illusion of a thinner waist.
  • Lean your upper body slightly forward- Be careful not to slouch though! Remember, whatever is closest to the camera appears larger. Leaning forward helps the face be more of the focal point of an image.
  • Keep your arms bent and pulled slightly away from your body. An easy way to do this is to put your hands in your pockets. This helps your arms appear slimmer.

Pro Tip- If you hire the right photographer they can guide you in posing. Don't be afraid to share your specific insecurities with your photographer. We want you to feel comfortable and love your final images! We will work together to create poses most flattering to you.

2) CHOOSE CLOTHING THAT IS BOTH COMFORTABLE AND FLATTERING

Say yes to: Maxi dresses, fitted tops tucked into long skirts, A-line dresses/coats, skinny jeans, cardigans, blazers, scarves, ankle boots, riding boots, fitted tunics

Say no to: Strapless, sleeveless (unless you love your arms), low-cut shirts, baggy clothes, chunky knits, cheap/flimsy fabrics, stilettos that will sink into the ground.

Above all if you feel good, you will look good! Stay true to your own style.

3) FOCUS ON YOUR FAMILY, RATHER THAN THE CAMERA!

Emotion over posing will win in a photograph every single time. The easiest way to look your best is if you focus your attention on showering your kids with love. Give them a snuggle, fly them up in the air, or play peek-a-boo.You want your family to be natural and engaged with each other - that way your smiles will be more genuine.
