Tiny But Mighty: Emma's NICU Story

Have to ever heard someone's life story and felt awe over the circumstances they have overcome. That is how I felt meeting baby Emma in the NICU of Golisano Children's Hospital in Rochester NY. Emma Lynn was born at 28.4 weeks weighing only 1lb 10.3oz and was a tiny 13 inches long. Proud parents Sara and Chris welcomed their baby girl on December 1st when her due date was not until February 20th. As the family's second NICU baby, they knew they long road ahead of them. Their first baby was born at 29.6 weeks, and spent 52 days in the NICU. Both Emma and Audrey were rainbow babies.

I got to meet and photograph little Emma at the end of February. Not only did I have the pleasure of meeting mom Sara, I also met Emma's grandma and her Aunt Amanda. We were able to sneak in some full family shots; something really special in a NICU. I couldn't get over all the little details in Emma's room. From a stuffed bear to ink footprints to a wash bin label 'Emma's Tubby', it was clear how loved this little girl is. We ended the visit with some bottle feeding shots, a big milestone for NICU babies.

I asked Sara what she wants people to know about having a baby in the NICU. She asked that people not judge parents who can't take their babies home right away. Also, please do not pressure mom if they want to breastfeed or not. You never know what parents are going through.

Update May 4th

Emma graduated from the NICU in April after 129 days in the hospital. Congratulations to the whole family!!
