3 Traveling Newborn Photographer Myths Debunked!

So you're thinking about hiring a professional photographer to take your newborn pictures. You Google search Rochester NY newborn photographers. As an overwhelming list loads you think, where do I even begin? Here is an excellent place to start: decide if you want a photographer with a commercial studio space or if you're leaning towards a traveling newborn photographer (that's me!).

First things first, what is a traveling newborn photographer? We are professionals who have made the decision to forgo a traditional studio, pack up our cars, and bring the studio to our clients. We are still (or should be) a legally run, highly trained, and insured small businesses. But you're still hesitant. Read on to find out more!

MYTH: YOU CAN'T HAVE STUNNING STUDIO QUALITY PORTRAITS TAKEN AT HOME

I pride myself in capturing your newborn, in perfect detail, regardless of where I am setting up my equipment. Are we taking these images in a traditional studio space? No. But do I bring studio equipment with me? Yes, of course I do. Anything you would expect to see in a commercial newborn studio space, gets packed in to my car, unpacked and set up in your living room (or kitchen or hallway or dining room, wherever there is space and the best natural light). I bring lighting equipment, camera, lenses, backdrop stand, backdrops, white noise machine, wraps, headbands, bonnets, just to name a FEW items. All posed newborn work in my portfolio was completed in client's homes. Not having a commercial studio space is not a hindrance from creating beautiful photographs.

MYTH: THE PROP AND COLOR SELECTION WILL BE LIMITED

Do I bring a limited number of props to a session. Yes. Does this mean my selection is small? NO! This is where my pre-session questionnaire comes in to play. I ask you to describe your baby's nursery and what colors you are hoping will be used in your session. It is my job to design a session that not only incorporates the colors you chose but also compliments your home décor for when it is printed. I bring enough props to your session to provide you with a varied gallery of final images to choose from while still looking cohesive as a whole.

MYTH: I NEED TO SCRUB MY HOUSE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM BEFORE MY PHOTOGRAPHER ARRIVES!

The entire reason I offer this service for my clients is for their convenience. I breaks my heart when my clients tell me they cleaned and vacuumed right before their session. Moment of complete honesty: I couldn't tell you what most of my client's homes look like. For example- I have vague impressions of liking the hardwood floors in one client's house and the natural light in another. But beyond that... after I set up my supplies in my small area, I am 100% focused on your baby and my equipment. So please, do not feel the need to clean up. Lay around in your sweatpants, with half brushed hair, enjoying the fact you didn't have to leave the house with your two week old baby while I create art for your family. As a mom myself, that sounds pretty awesome to me and is a service I pride myself on offering to my clients.
