Does this sound familiar?

You've booked your family's photo session, picked the date, time and location, and you trust your photographer to pose your active little ones to capture this moment in time. But then you think... what the heck are we going to wear?! Follow these tips to find the perfect outfits for your family:

"Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak"

—Rachel Zoe

For the whole family:

  • Be sure to plan your outfits completely at least a week before your session.
  • Choose a palette of 2-4 colors and mix it up, including both pants and dresses. You want a cohesive feel, without being overly ‘matchy-matchy’
  • Make sure all clothes are clean, pressed, and on hangers a few days before your session
  • Remember, shoes will show in some of the photos and should be clean and stylish!

Babies and kids:

Choose:

  • Accessories that complement the outfit - hats, headbands, shoes, bowties
  • Fitted clothes

Avoid:

  • Baggy clothes
  • Big logos, busy patterns

Adults:

Choose:

  • Clothes that coordinate well with the rest of the group
  • Fitted clothing in solid colors, which usually photograph best
  • Optional: have hair styled and professional make-up done before the session

Avoid:

  • Sleeveless shirts and shorts, as well as short dresses, which are harder to pose in
  • Logos and bold patterns
  • Sunglasses or transition lenses
  • High heels, which may be difficult to walk in during an outdoor session
